I seen the cutest idea for a crafted bird feeder for your little birdie friends using pinecones as the seed dispenser. I had to try it out as my toddler loves watching all the Robbins and other birds. We even have a small routine of throwing seed for them just about every day. It’s such fun, and I love how much he enjoys it.
So this pinecone bird feeder is at the top of my fall ideas to do with him this year.

What I love about these little bird treats is that they are so fun, and cheap to make.

Product notes

You can use pine cones from your back yard or purchase them from online or at your local craft store. Just be sure to check for any little bugs or spiders and dust them Off well when using fresh ones from outside. ☀️
I like to use smuckers natural peanut butter since it doesn’t have any unnecessary additives however use whatever peanut butter you like.
Any birdseed will do. We used a birdseed we bought from ALDI in the spring that is specifically mixed for smaller birds. It was perfect for this project.

set out a cutting board or parchment paper to work over.

Attaché cotton string to the top of the pine cone(s) using a double knot to secure it. (you can do this step at the end but it may be slightly more messy.)

How to make your very own bird feeder

Using your butter knife spread peanut butter on the pine cone and between the open petals Over a cutting board or parchments paper. Be a bit generous so that the seeds will stick to your pine well.

Push the pinecone gently but firmly into your bowl of seeds at different angles. Keep turning your pinecone and pressing it into the seeds until it has your desired amount of seeds and the look you are goin’ for.
